Springtime is beautiful in the Smoky Mountains; the flowers are blooming, the trees are coming back to life, and the birds are singing. Perhaps the best reason to visit the Gatlinburg area during the spring is the three-month long celebration known as Springfest.

Springfest begins in early March and continues through the first week of June. Tourists and locals can enjoy live entertainment on the sidewalks, as well as overflowing flowers all around. The Great Smoky Arts & Crafts Community hosts their annual Easter Arts & Crafts Show at the Gatlinburg Convention Center. Come and see some of the best handmade spring decorations, crafts, and more! On Easter morning head to Ober Gatlinburg for the annual Easter Sunrise Service at 6:30 a.m. There will be a breakfast buffet awaiting you after the service at the Ober Gatlinburg Restaurant from 7 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. There is also Gatlinburg’s Ribfest & Wings and the Spring Wildflower Pilgrimage to look forward to during Springfest. Springfest is full of so many great events that you may not be able to do all of them! You can try though.

Ribfest, Wings & BBQ

Visit a good old-fashioned street on the Gatlinburg Parkway during Ribfest, Wings & BBQ. Just purchase an armband and you can sample the great ribs and wings all night! At the end of the night judges will award prizes to the best ribs or wings in seven categories. All vendors are competing for the “People’s Choice Award” which is chosen by the people. This festival isn’t just ribs and wings though! There’s a lot more food to be eaten! Ben & Jerry’s host the “Vermonster Ice Cream Eating Contest”. A brain freeze will only slow you down! There will also be a hot wing eating contest sponsored by All Sauced Up. The featured sauces are “Blazing Bomb,” “Treacherous Tongue”, Scorching Screaming,” Next Day Disaster,” and “Fire Pit Hell.” Did we mention there’s live entertainment? There is! Come to Ribfest, Wings & BBQ in downtown Gatlinburg for great food, great music, and a great time!
